your questions What is ADSL?

Why do I need Home Networking?
Many modern families now have more than one computer device, in fact some families all have their own computers. Imagine what you can do if all these computers share the same services at speeds of up to 5Mb, such as the printer, digital photographs, music/video downloads, games - the list is endless. On top of this, the kids can be doing their homework on-line at the same time that Mum and Dad are booking the family holiday. None of this is possible with a single PC connected to a standard broadband connection. Are there any problems or risks I should be aware of if I use ?
There are no serious risks in transferring to our broadband, however, as with any broadband service, if you are permanently connected to the internet, you are increasing the risk of attacks from hackers and software viruses. By being aware of this and taking preventative actions such as installing suitable firewall and anti-virus software, you can manage the risk and reduce the likelihood of attack on your computer.
If I subscribe to , will I be charged for the time that I spend browsing the internet or sending e-mail?
No, our broadband operates on an always-on basis, so you can use it as often as you like for a fixed monthly price. Therefore, unlike dial-up services, you can remain connected to the internet 24 hours a day without being charged extra or disconnected.
And remember, even though you are permanently connected to the internet you will still be able to receive and make uninterrupted phone calls.
Will I need to modify my computer system to change over to ?
PC's are sometimes configured for a dial-up access to the internet, therefore, as with any broadband service you may need to optimise your computer to get the most out of your broadband; there are software programmes available on the internet that can help with this. Some of these packages can affect your computer in different ways therefore we advise that you seek professional help before doing this.
Why do I need to install firewall and anti-virus software?
When you have an always-on connection to the internet it is important to install suitable firewall and anti-virus software. This will help protect you against malicious viruses or the attempted attacks by a hacker, who could break into your computer and access your personal files.
